Each initiative is carefully developed to provide practical, life-sustaining support to individuals experiencing homelessness, housing instability, and food insecurity. From weekly meals to essential resource distribution, we meet people where they are and walk alongside them toward hope and stability.

Community Outreach & Street Engagement

The Imani Center conducts consistent, hands-on outreach throughout Columbus to directly serve individuals and families experiencing homelessness and housing instability. Rather than waiting for people to seek assistance, the organization actively goes into communities to distribute resources, provide meals, and build meaningful relationships. The goal is not only to provide essentials but to restore hope and connection.

Weekly Meal Program

The Imani Center addresses food insecurity through organized weekly meal distributions, recognizing it as a critical challenge for those experiencing homelessness. By maintaining a weekly schedule every Saturday from 9:30 – 10:30 am at 946 Parsons Ave, Columbus, we provide the consistent support needed to alleviate hunger on a predictable basis. This predictability enhances trust and engagement with the community while providing:

Nutritious food options
Consistent meal access
Community support during distribution

By offering reliable meal services, we create a safe space for individuals and families to connect with volunteers and access additional resources.

Thrive Kits (Essential Care Packages)

Thrive Kits are thoughtfully assembled care packages designed to support personal hygiene, health, and comfort.

Each kit may include:

Hygiene products (soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant)
First-aid essentials
Blankets and seasonal items
Diapers and baby supplies (when needed)
Cold-weather gear
Basic survival necessities

Without access to proper hygiene facilities, homeless individuals are at a higher risk of infection and other health issues. Being able to clean oneself can boost morale and confidence, which are vital for seeking employment, housing, and social integration. These kits are distributed during outreach events at the following locations:

946 Parsons Ave, Columbus
Every Saturday | 9:30 – 10:30 am

165 Cypress Ave, Columbus
First & Third Saturday | 2:30 – 4:00 pm

Blessing Box Project

The Blessing Box Project is a community-based initiative in Columbus that allows individuals to both give and receive essential items. The Imani Center proudly serves as a host for the Blessing Box located in Pickerington, Ohio, which is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Located at 859 Windmiller Drive in Pickerington, the box is stocked with:

Nonperishable food
Hygiene supplies
Baby essentials
Pet food
Household necessities

Community members are encouraged to “Take what you need, leave what you can.” This initiative promotes shared responsibility and neighborhood compassion.

Volunteer Engagement Program

Volunteers are a vital part of The Imani Center’s mission. The organization welcomes individuals, churches, businesses, schools, and community groups who want to make a difference. Please note that volunteer hours with The Imani Center can be used to meet high school graduation community service requirements.
